Question: Who has the best history of critter bites? This includes every kind of animal, wild or captive....just to get things started my repetoire (including pet store jobs) includes:

-Constictor snakes
-Rose Tarantula
-Emperor Scorpion (sting not bite)
-Monitors (Nile, Savannha)
-Geckos
-Giant Millipede
-Fish (Ciclids, Pirahnas, Catfish, Clown Knife, Silver Aro)
-Amphibians (Africa Bull Frog. Ornate Horned Toad, Hellbender [most painful of all])

-and the creme de la creme.....a baby timber rattlesnake (required anti-venom and 2 days in hospital)

i swear i use caution at all times, but i suppose those are the risks of a lifetime devoted to animals...

:irked: No offence but the way you have posted this thread looks like its something your proud of! and your list of species is more like a trophy cabinet..TBH I have been bitten very few times and been keeping reptiles on and off for 16 years..I may have read your post wrong and if so I'm sorry but just looks like your bragging about what you have had bite you..which I wouldn't be proud of if I was you...;)

I didn't take offense to the question. True, I'm not necessarily proud of being bitten by animals, but I'm not ashamed of it either. It's part of the hobby; if you've been working with animals for a while (13 yrs in my case), you're gonna get bitten by something sooner or later. It happens. I certainly hope you don't feel you're above us all for having a nearly bite-free record so far, Snakemanstu.

And what's wrong with his list? Those are the animals he's been bitten by. What qualifies an animal for a trophy cabinet anyway? The same could be said for any of our collections. I'm not trying to start anything, but I think you're right; you may have just read it wrong.

Anyhow...back to the topic onhand...I've probably been bitten by nearly any critter found in a petstore, and then some, so I'm just gonna list the memorable ones.

- 4' albino Burmese python (probably the worst bite by any animal thus far)
- blue/gold macaw
- African grey parrot
- 9' Burmese python
- my own ball python
- prehensile-tailed skink (like getting your hand slammed by a car door)
- Fire skink (small, but the little bugger death-rolled like no tomorrow)
- 10" Oscar
- Emperor scorpion (stung obviously, though I heard their pinch is far worse)
- rose-hair tarantula (flung hairs at face and caused hours of red irritation/itching)
- large hermit crab (nasty pinch)

As you can see not a bite free record if you took the time to read my post a bit slower..I definitely don't see myself as "above" anyone at all far from it but I also don't try and glorify things by posting lists of what i have been bitten by..Maybe I did read it wrong but with phrases like "Who has the best history...." and "the creme de la creme is a baby timber rattlesnake" don't make the post come across as maybe it could have with better wording.I'm not out to offend anyone and apologise if I have but makes me sick when you get people bragging about how many times they have been bitten and by this that and the other.

I think we should compare the best bites. Mine was a 5 foot iguana that clamped onto my chin! I had to wander around the store with this thing hanging off me like a beard, until I could find a staff member to help me get it off. Barley any damage too, thank you goatee.

i know what snakemanstu means. had someone trying to convince me they got stung by a man o war the other day...
anyway
some python species and a type of jellyfish i think is my "record" thus far. o and a couple of parrots and an owl

Macklots Python. Several times. But he doesnt usualy bite the gloves.

Umm...I most certainly did read your post, which is why I said "nearly bite-free" record. I think the wording applies since you mentioned a very few times in a 16 year period.

And I wasn't bragging either.

Great Horned Owl, still hurt even through the welding glove.

Reamember, when ever an animal bites you it is you fault, you did not see somthing or did not read its body language correctly. The owl that bit me was my fault because I was trying to get it off its perch and it did not want to go.
