yeah...I guess. All the fish in the hobby are taken from the wild. Even if you buy tank bred fish, they came from the wild at some point. Piranhas are game fish and a major food staple for people living along the Amazon. I would rather live in an aquarium than be dinner. They breed like guppies in the wild and have a very short population doubling time.

That's crazy how fish like that would go for hundreds in the U.S. but are dinner down there.

people just have a hard time seeing the value of what's in their own backyards... this hobby is driven by the perceived rarity of certain fish, that's why there aren't too many people that collect fish native to the US, even tho there are some great fish to choose from.

to most people in this country, the bass and sunfish that are swimming around in the lakes near their houses are good for sport or dinner (much like the piranha in the video), but they are also awesome fish to keep in an aquarium due to their looks and personality.
