I'm getting a small pond 150gal or so and i need a awesome pleco.....
never owned one any ideas??? pics will help me choose:D just like my books!LOL:ROFL:
 
either as long it'll survive outside.
 
Your best bet is the Common Pleco (Hypotomus Plecostomus)...do they even still go by that scientific name?

Pretty sure the common is now Liposarcus pardalis L021/L023
 
I've done a little research and they live in the amazon river basin....
i live in Texas i think he should be fine.... it stays pretty warm here

Yes, that one hasn't changed.

Your best bet is one of the above described plecos.

Not that its relevent but I haven't seen a true H. puncatus for sale in 5 years. I'd say that they have almost completely replaced the Hypostomus sp. with the Pterygoplichthys sp as the "common" pleco
 
Common refers to many species, and I see both Hypostomus, liposarcus, and pterygoplichthys equally.

Texas and the amazon do not have the same climates. Your water will not sustain many of the species of 'pleco' without a heater. Stick to commons as they are generally very hardy, and will be able to survive your winters.
