What do you feed for a staple? I've had a lot of trouble feeding mine, though he recently started taking pieces of fish fillet from my fingers. Other than that he'll only eat live feeders. I know that they prefer live, but I'm wondering what else works. I haven't tried feeding krill, prawns, or shrimp yet. I don't think he took earthworms when I tried it

Live feeders. Mine are around 2.5-3" an they absolutely love them. But when I don't have feeders once a day I'll put some bloodworms in there. How big is yours?

Mine is about 6 inches long, I would estimate, since it would be hard to measure him. He was just over 5 inches when I got him 2-3 months ago

I give mine feeders too, but I don't like to use them all the time because I don't have space to breed them and all I can find in lfs are rosy reds and comets, which have that enzyme that causes health problems

I buy my feeders from a reputable lfs that makes sure their minnows are disease free. Besides that they love worms I forgot to mention earth worms. I cut them up and they really enjoy them but I have them steady on worms either blood or earthworms. So far Ive had them held in a 20 gal as a small grow out and will be putting them in my 55 with a little channel in a few weeks. Here's a few more pics
