Welcome to the forum. We're a friendly bunch on here. Just browse through the sections and either start a thread of your own regarding any questions you have, or simply join in conversations that are already going.
You'll soon get the hang of it.
As far as actually "meeting" people in person I believe there are get togethers occasionally, they seem to be mainly in the states though, which is good for you. Other members may chime in and give you more details, but you'll have to tell them which part of the states you're from.
