night time photo shoot tips?

calling all you photo gurus, im going to midnight mayhem, which is a local car meet that holds legal drag races. and wanted to know what settings i should be shooting at to get decent pictures. oh and i wont have a tripod to use.
 
depends even with tripod lots of variables at car show, ie its night but is it flood light? to what level? are u shooting motion or stationary pics, ext...

well the place is going to be well lit because its held at the speedway. most shots will be stationary
 
use a flash light with the flash on the camera. its double good
 
increase ur iso to 800 or more
use a large aperture, that is a small f number, may be F4 or so
that way u will be able to go with a little higher shutter speed, tha wya u might not need a tripod, but do use the on cam flash, that will assist u

or u can use matrix metering with the flash on aperture mode, that way ur cam will select the shutter speeds it needs
