Hey you guys and gals, anybody keep a nightlite on at night in your LF tanks?

i use a 1 watt LED for my gar tank (which also houses my AUL); the light is on for about 2-3 hours after the main lights go off. this works well for the AUL since they are naturally a more nocturnal species, and i can watch the fish for a while at night (i also usually feed him during this period).

you don't necessarily NEED a nightlight, but it gives you the chance to observer some of their nocturnal behavior, when i had a brighter nightlight i would also observe my aethiopicus, annectens, dolloi, and amphibius at night as well. as long as it's not too bright, its an interesting way to observe your fishes :) --

I personally don't use any lighting on my lung tanks. Which in itself leads to normal activity, which is low anyway. It's not like they go ballet dancing or anything at night :) My annectens, aethiopicus and SA's are quite active at any hours of the day. The dolloi are the only ones that don't move around.

The Australians at the zoo in Baltimore were quite active in the early afternoon. Never thought of using a night light for any of them. Interesting idea. Might get to see the dolloi move around a bit.
