My newly beloved Tapajos is doing really badly. Here are some shots of his eroding head. He is still active and eating well but.... I feel cursed with the pikes. The water conditions are solid. I have treated with Metro and then Mela and Pima fix. He lives in a 125 with a H. Bocourti and an electric blue dempsey. The latter are supposedly pretty sensitive and he's fine and happy. I don't know what I've done wrong.

Dude,i so f'ing feel for you, that **** is not right man.............................and a pike that i can't even get around here, you had the luxury of raising and this happens to you:(:(:(:( Dude, you got a U.V.,it MIGHT be parasitic??

give us you parameter.

good luck!

Ouch, its progressing? You still adding metronidazole? If not get some, it realllly helps with HITH and stuff correlated in that area.

Metronidazole from kvvet.com. 100 250mg tabs for $13.99. That's enough to treat 1000gals.

I doubt its a type of parasite, although puttin a UV Sterilizer might not be a bad idea for the long run just in case something else comes up. Your not mixing chemicals are you? Add some charchol and remove all meds. from the tank for three days , then start the treatment again. First treat with Melafix AND Pimafix for 5 days. The Melafix will help fight the ulcer and help it grow back as well as any bacterial infection, while the PimaFix will deal with any fungus that might be present. Also while you are treatin for it add 1 tablespoon epson salt per 5 gal to the tank. After five days, if there is no improvement, remove the chemicals with charcoal, wait three days, and start treating with Metronidazole. I wouldn't treat with it while you are using the Melafix and Pimafix as theres no tellin what the medications will do to each other. Hopefully that will work out for yaz, keep your fingers crossed.

That is SAD . . . . . . . hope the Meds help and that crud clears up! DON'T GIVE UP!!
Since almost all pikes are wild caught sometimes it's just a matter of time till internal parasites appear. Hopefully NOT

Thanks you gentlemen-it has been a really hellish fish experience. At the risk of sounding like some kind of freak, i feel it is in part bad karma. I left fish and pikes years ago and now that i want them again things aren't going too well. I'll just have to keep going until it straightens out. He definately has some HITH now-I suppose having his outer "skin" eaten away didn't help protect against that. If anyone gets any ideas let me know. Thanks again.

Sounds to me like you need to treat with Metro again. How are your water Parm. now? Did you use Metro, and then somthing else after that? I hate to say this and you should definetly do what you want but I really think you need to treat the fish again. I've heard that salt helps HITH but I've never had HITH in any of my fish so i can't offer you any of my personal experiences with it. IF the fish were mine i would do a water change, take out the carbon, add salt(1 tablespoon per 5 gallons), and then treat him with Metro for 5 days but you really need to decide whats best for your fish. Check your water first to make sure u haven't messed up the water chemistry. Good luck Greg. If you want some pure Metro powder send me an instand message and i'll mail you some. Hope its not something like a 150 gallon tank though. That would be expensive.
