Nikon macro lens

I'm interested in a really basic (read:cheap) macro lens for my Nikon D40. An f/1.8 would be awesome if anyone has it.
 
don't know much bout cameras but wouldn't getting a tube be a cheap alternative to a macro lens?
 
Nikkor macro's (mirco's) don't come in f1.8, the cheapest would be a 60mm AF-D and they are f2.8 and run $350-400

as far as cheap lenses in f1.8, you can look into a 50mm normal prime, uber cheap at around $100.
