The only thing I would suggest is to put a couple of things like driftwood or rock to allow the monitor to go above the water if it want to.

Monitors do like water, but they need a place of refugee if they don't want to swim or wade.

Yeah, put something in their that floats for him to climb on. Maybe an over-sized rubber ducky!

Should be able to...most balls generally don't like it, but some of the other boids do like to swim.
