I bought two one inch juvenile Fuscos last February. I mentioned them in a Nimbochromis compatibility thread, also in February. One was apparently a "juiced" male, already showing the adult blue coloration. The second displayed the standard juvenile brown camo pattern. That one turned out to be female.
Observation #1. Fuscos grow very fast. The male is just under five inches & the female is 4".
That's roughly a one inch per month growth rate. The male now has complete adult color.
Observation #2. The Fuscos aren't open water swimmers like the rest of my Haps, which include, Venustus, Livingstoni, Borleyi, Eye Biter & others. The Fuscos claim seperate rock piles & defend them much like Mbuna. The limited resources I could access regarding wild Fuscos described them to be shallow water fish.
Observation #3. Fusco aggression. All the hype is true, Fuscos are ultra aggressive, but that rings true for most African Cichlids. The only difference is, Fuscos grow relatively large for an aquarium fish, amplifying the potential for aggression disasters.
In short; not much information out there regarding Fuscos as compared to the other Predator Haps. IMO, great fish. Not sure why Fuscos are relatively uncommon or seldom discussed. I've included a pic of the Fusco's tank & few glamor shots. Lol.
