left to go buy my girlfriends car came back all my fish are gasping for air at the top of the tank except the cat who is gasping at the bottom i immediately started doing a water change i am doing roughly 50 percent today and 50 tomorrow. my arro was all but dead it was litterally floating on its side dying. i was holding him right side up in the tank while i was using the fx5 to turbo drain the tank. now that i am filling it i have the filter back on and i was holding him in the current for a while he appears to be doing better as he is holding himself right side up in the current. what els can i do or am i doing all i can and do you think the arro will make it. please help dont bash on me just help

I would say if he's holding himself upright again he shoukd make it. Do you know what may have caused the spikes? I would be trying to fix that next after getting everyone back to health. I personally have never had this happen but I would be terrified to come home to that scene. I hope all turns out well for you

It didn't happen over the coarse of 3 hours. Your tank levels have to reach a point where it's to much for the fish to handle. The drastic change in the fish may have happened in three hours but the build up of the toxins happend over time.. I would say doing water changes is the best thing you can be doing. I would have done at least 75%.. Granted the drastic change could stress the fish but I would say they are stressed as a lot worse from the poor water quality. As for the Aro, I have no adea as I don't no much about them. I would say if he appears to be doing better hopefully you caught it in time. What are your current water params? Hopefully the lesson was learned, keep up on your water changes.. Best of luck..

you are most definitely right the water quality was not up to par. newer tank and i treated it like i had my 75 thats been up for years. i did want to change out more water but i was too worried about changing to much. he is swimming alright and i hope that he will be ok. i will keep everyone updated and i have most definitely learned that more small water changes are probably better than larger ones far between.

So it isn't cycled meaning the ammonia isn't being converted by the bb and bio filtration. More bio media, when ammonia hits higher levels change water! Keep testing daily to ensure ur fish survive! Goodluck

And also add some filter media or bio media from ur existing tank to help cycle.
