Nitrate/Nitrite Problem

On thursday I performed a 40% water change. Noticed none of my fish looked too happy. So tested water and nitrite (.5ppm) and nitrates(100ppm) were very high. Is there any thing I can do other than more water changes and if only water changes how often can/should I do them?

How high was the nitrate and was there nitrite before you did the water change? You should test your tap.

It is 100ppm and I have not tested in a while so not sure what it was. but the tap is between 5-10ppm
