I am curious to see if anyone has tried this. I couldn't get my nitrates below 20 ppm and i got the idea from high tech refugiums to try something a little different and low tech. So i cut probably 6 vines from a pothis and stuck them in my fish tank. Within days they were sprouting roots and now they all have long roots growing out of control, but the important part is it has brought my nitrates down below 10 ppm. I knew it was important for my rays. Has anyone else had any luck with this?

I did exactly the same with the plant in post #2. The plant was too long and was a nuisance. So I cut it a few vines and put the ends in a 135g. The tops hang out of the tank. It looks nice.

I didn't tknow it has such an effect on nitrates. Thanks for sharing!

some people keep plants in sumps, cant remember what they are called though, for this very reason

Yes, That is the plant i put in my tank and it is a 125 xxblwn408. DavidW, why dont more people just do this versus an expensive refugium?

hmmmm. maybe I should try this

Ill have to design my next sump to include some of thes plants.Sounds like a cool experiment

I really don't know why people don't know why more people don't have fresh water refugiums! Everyone, when I was working at my lfs, put them on their salt water set ups but never put them on their fresh. I always found that very strange.

I did a google search and it came up as pothos.
Would this be okay to do in a acrylic tank? Would it hurt the outside surface with the plant hanging over.
