Is there any reason I can't build a nitrate reactor larger than what I see commercially available or being built online? I'm thinking at least 6" PVC by 36" tall. Thank you

of course you can build it as large as you want. why should you not be able to do that?

It might be hard to get the flow right to tumble the media.

If you want to eat up nitrate I'd do an algae scrubber. Around $50 and you're good to go for a ridiculous tank size

I don't believe the media needs to tumble. It isn't a fluidized bed I was just going to run Seachem's denitrate and I believe you need an anaerobic set up for that...

for a nitrate reactor you need an anaerobic environment correct. there is some ways to do it. either a conventional reactor similar to a proteinskimmer or you can do an anoxic filter. the anoxicfilters are quite interesting. check it out.

Sulfur Denitrators work great. I had built one a few years ago for my 300 gal tank. Followed the design on redfcentral
