Don't waste your time. Build an algae scrubber instead. Basically, you flow water down a screen which is very brightly lit. Your lights should be less than 4" away from the screen, and its best to have both sides lit. Most people use plastic screens that you can but from art supply stores, then rough them up (this can be a lot of work and you want them REALLY rough.)
Algae will grow on the screen, you clean one side of it every week, initially very gently and eventually you'll have trouble even scraping it off.

im sure it does remove nitrate. js is right nitrate probably the least of your worries. products like this will most likely make u neglect regular water changes. no matter what products u use to keep your water clean nothing can substitute regular water changes and im not a big fan of chemical filtration.

If your concerned about nitrates and performing water changes build an automatic water changer or a 24/7 drip system.
