stingray: What level of nitrate is actually harmful to rays? or is it harmful at all? :stingray:

It's been long debated at what levels Nitrate are actually harmful to fish. Most fish can slowly adapt to very high level of nitrates, however, Stingrays might be much more aggitated than most fish.

The problem is 'acute' stress, or long-term stress.. Exposure to even a small amount of Nitrates over a long period of time can prove to be very detrimental.

The ideal condition is 10ppm or lower, but this can be hard or nearly impossible to maintain... That is why we always preach to do your best, attempt to keep it at 0ppm, and do large frequent water changes..

I would not let the Nitrate rise above 50-60ppm, just as a precaution, or it could cause your ray to go into serious stress-out mode and refuse foods.. and after that, it can be hard for your ray to recover from any serious issues.
