What is a safe level for rays and new borns on nitrate. I checked ours in my pond and on a freshwater test kit its 20. I always hear you all talking about watching them so im just wondering whats safe because ive never bothered with them before. Thanks for any info.

We are really careful with the pH, ammonia & nitrite, but just never paid much attention to the nitrate figured if the other 3 were good we were ok. Sounds like we are. Thanks for the input.

The only time Nitrate should ever be an issue is with severe overstocking or old tank syndrome. As long as you do frequent water changes you won't need to check it too often. I usually check mine about once a month just for piece of mind

Mine runs 40-60 ppm, and I check it once a month or so.

My nitrates normally hover around the 5-10ppm range.
