nitrite and ph

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sorry if its a noobish question but before i got my 90gallon i never really paid any attention to the nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, PH, ect.

This is a very good question.

With a higher pH, the toxicity of Ammonia and Nitrite is greatly increased. Its because of this that filtration must be impeccable. The lower the pH, the effect of ammonia and nitrite will be reduced. This is why you see such high filtration on high pH tanks such as African Cichlid and Marine set-ups.

If you have fish in it that really affects them. I just got my fish tranfered to my tank on the 11th from mjunior's(fellow MFK) house with proper aclimation and since saturday night they seemed stressed and didn't want to eat(these fish are attackers so it wasn't normal for them to not eat)....I didn't think that it would be any problem since I had feeders in my tank for quite a while but when I tested my water the PH, nitrate and nitrite was high so I had to take some action.

SO ANY SUGGESTION CAN HELP ME OUT TOO TO BETTER REDUCE THE LEVEL.

well i have yet to to put my real fish in there, currently there are goldfish (they were put in their to help the bacteria bed start) and will be moved out when my real fish get in there because 1. i don't like goldfish and 2. my real fish a predators
