Ok, I was cycle a tank with a fish for the past 6 weeks. The Nitrites were sky high for a long time and I finally broke down and added some cycle for the good bacteria. Viola.... within a week my nitrites went way down and my nitrates went up. I don't know if the cycle helped that much, but it was pretty frustrating to see it not change week after week. I'm sold on it though.

Congrats. Just make sure its stabilized for another week atleast before stocking. Even then I would start small. There are alot of mixed results with these products. However at 6 weeks depending on a few different things the nitrites should be falling anyways if all was done correctly. I am assuming this is a fish cycle. Whats your stock and tank size?

29 gallon grow out tank for the classroom with 2 pike cichlid going in. I've got a 75 that'll be getting set up next month to put the pikes in for long term, but for now the kids are excited that we can start adding fish. You'd recommend to wait a week though?

Yeah , that is just my personal opinion. I am OCD though. I am sure you could get away with adding fish assuming you have closely monitored your parameters during cycling and everything indicates well.

Have you tested your tap water aged 24 hours for nitrates against your tank water nitrates ?

Anytime! Glad to hear some teachers are actually educating kids with aquariums. My little sister has learned a lot about life watching my tanks.
