So hey guys. I'm having a bit of an issue here in my 55 gallon. It's been cycling for a month and has been up and running for quite some time. Ive noticed of late I'm having nitrite spikes nothing severe yet. But what should I do to lower it and keep it 0. I do weekly 25 percent changes along with gravel vacs. Also have ammonia reducers in both filters..Please help. I cant loose my green terror or palmas (2) fish are friends not food

Would do a water change. Reduce ur feedings. Cont to check daily. What ur filtration like? You need some more biological filtration from what I can imagine.

2 aqueon 50 both have the bio bags. And I keep an extra pack in there with it and just swap em so I dont remove the good bacteria build up when I do a filter clean

Why are you taking them out and swapping them? Bio material shouldn’t need to be replaced for a really long time. I guess I also don’t know what you mean when you say bio bags.
Filter cleaning should just be swishing the media around in a bucket of tank water.
What are your readings?
Prime and salt are the two ways I’ve delt with nitrites in the past.

Can do every other day. See if it’s enough to reduce the conversion to nitrates.

Keep the bio bags in there. Might be the reason why ur having issues like MrsE88 MrsE88 Mentioned.

I have the ammonia reducers in both filters as well. I keep two pads in the filters one in front one in back. Every once in a while I swap them and put the one from the back to the front and swish it in the tank water I vacuumed out. Should I stop doing that?
