Nls dirty water

I bought some Nls a few days ago because everyone talks about how great it is but all my fish are sitting the majority out through their gills causing dirty water, is this normal with Nls and cichlids or maybe just my brand (thera + medium fish formula, 2mm sinking pellets plus garlic)

it seems like it's more important to feed smaller nls pellets than you might with other brands, so they gulp it down, not have to chew. it's natural color does bleed into the water column more though, & shows on filtration materials etc..

I cant say my water clarity improved nor got worse when i switched from hikari to nls. it is possible since its a harder pellet that they might not be eating the whole thing like pet spoiler said. If some is getting out and not getting eating it can affect not only the water color but your other parameters as well. I agree with petspoiler that if the pellets are too large to swallow whole you can try a smaller one and see if it helps

I've never used larger than the 1mm cichlid pellets but I've never had any problems like that with them. I could probably go larger for about half my stock but then the rest would have issues with the larger pellets.

I feed NLS to my silver dollars but when it hits the water they swarm like piranhas so they are just inhaling them but I notice if I fed it to my cichlids when I had them they would crush them and blow particles out there gills I never really saw a change in my water quality but that could be just my experience but like suggested above if you use a smaller pellet then your fish may eat faster and not chew it but from what I see in my tank is that my water quality never got worse from it
