I just got some NLS for my Discus and they didn't even seem to notice the pellets when I tried to feed them. When I put the blackworms in they went crazy. My Discus are 6 to 7 months old. They have been eating blackworms and emerald entry.
Is anyone feeding NLS to their Discus? Did you have to teach them somehow to eat pellets.

If you keep feeding black worms they will never eat the NLS. What size pellets do you have? I feed NLS Thera-A 1mm sinking pellets. I had to stop feeding everything else in order to get them on it but it is much better for them than black worms. Don't feed them for a couple of days then start feeding the NLS exclusivly for a couple of weeks, then you could treat with black worms every once and a while. Another good food I found they like is Omega One Marine pellets. It is worth the effort to get on the NLS.

I feed my pair NLS discus food. They don't go crazy for it, but if they're hungry they're happy enough to eat it. I only feed in very small amounts at a time since they're pretty slow to eat. I'll sprinkle half a dozen pellets, much more than that and it will sink before they get to it and someone else will eat it.
They go crazy for black worms though. I don't give them more than about a dozen each per week.

I weaned my breeding pair off of black worms, takes a couple of days.

However they are eating "ocean nutrition-Prime reef flakes, formula 1 small pellet " and as a treat Frozen blood worms along with beef eye round (ground)

The following discus are but a small sample of a local breeders stock that vary in age from 6-12 months. Some German stock, as well as some Malaysian stock. All of the fish shown below have been raised on a near exclusive diet of 1mm NLS cichlid pellets. (NLS makes up 90+% of their diet - the rest blood worms)

Sorry about the dirty tanks, but with approx 3,500 gallons worth of tanks I guess keeping the glass spotless isn't a high priority. :)

I should also add that these photos were taken with a $200 point & shoot, and only shop lights over the fish.
