Hi all,

I am starting to add some NLS pellets to my cichlids' diet, but I am a little confused on the different labels.

Is Thera+A suitable for a daily staple, or is it mainly for situations when fish are stressed or sick? I ask this because the NLS site uses words like "stressed", "immune". and "newly acquired fish" when describing Thera+A, so I just want to make sure before I add more of this to their diet.

I use TheraA as a staple. :) Feed my fish with it all the time. In fact, is the only thing I feed them.

Yes, agree. I've used it as a staple and known others who did. Fish looked good on it when I did, I had rotkeil severums that practically glowed on the stuff. Only thing I'd say is ime some fish like it, some love it, and some hate it, so I'd try it out before committing to it. I've had fish that simply refused to eat Thera-A that were fine with other NLS products. For example, in my past experience any Heros I had liked it, including wild. Now I have a wild Heros from Brazil (supposed to be notatus but isn't) that won't touch it. Same with C. gibberosa kapampa I've raised for years; weird, but out of the same breeding line I've had for years, some groups like it-- or at least eat it-- and some hate it. Meanwhile, they've always been fine with other NLS.

Not to mention, some folks find the lingering odor offensive. Personally I never noticed it, but I also feed my fish sparingly, and enjoy garlic. Lol

For African Cichlids, what do you think the better staple diet is:

[1] NLS Naturox Medium,
[2] NLS Thera A Medium
[3] some other NLS label

A mix of NLS cichlid formula, and NLS Algaemax. If the fish are over 7-8”, you could also use NLS Large Fish in 3mm size. Otherwise IME best to stick to 1 or 2 mm pellets.
