I'm wondering if having my tank in the middle of the room with no background is fooling my fish of having a bigger space thus causing non aggressiveness. I have a 135g tank, 3-9" doviis (1m,2f), 10- 1/2"-3/4" dovii fry, 2-4" convicts (2m), 1-5" jack dempsey, and 1-11" pleco. They nip each other every once in a while, but nothing serious.

I'm looking to get a bigger tank or pond, but this is very interesting to me. I was always told that you can't keep these fishes together especially when they are spawning. Well it's been a couple months since the dovii's spawned and the females are still laying eggs. The male just takes care of both. I'm doing the upgrade just in case. Just experimenting for now. We'll see.

lol, thats crazy... dovi's bred and still no casualities huh?
wow...

When my Motas first started to breed, Female 4" & Male 4.5" they killed a 7" Sailfin Pleco, ate a 2.5" dia Apple Snail and Killed a 4" male Convict. This was in a 75 not a 135 but I still think you are very lucky. Eventually a breeding pair of Dovii will want the whole tank and anything eles in it will be killed.

I'm amazed also, I'll let you guys know how long it takes before my luck runs out. Funny thing, the male convicts are fighting each other all the time and the doviis are just ignoring them. The babies are getting bigger. I have 20 fry growing in a 20g tank but they are not growing as fast as the ones in the 135g.

I have a 125 set up as a room divider as well. I don't have that many aggression issues, but I also have more territories set up than you have. That is pretty wild that they're doing well with so much open space.

The doviis finally showed their true nature. The female that successfully had frys has attacked the other female and the male dovii joined in. All three were swimming around together for about a day and then suddenly the dominant female attacked the other one. After about a couple of hours, I noticed the other female started to look beat up. I believe I took her out in time, because my friend said that she's doing alright in his tank.

The rest of the fishes are doing fine right now, but I'm keeping a close eye. I'll keep you guys updated with the rest of my observation.

if theres no other issues besides that ur still lucky haha. but everyone does say aggression depends on that specific fish so u may be ok who knows. i got oscar who is such a wimp that he can only be kept with community fish haha
