I recently got a 75 gallon that I am planning on filling with water tonight. I got a wooden stand on clearance at Petsmart. I was looking at the stand today, and it occurred to me that there is no wooden support in the center. Will this be sufficient support for a 75?

yup. glass tanks do not need center support.

only perimeter support.

tough to find a LFS premade stand that has center support.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure if I gave a good enough description. It looks like the only real support is on the sides of the perimeter. There is not support in the middle of the front and back of the perimeter.

best way to get the best answer is to post up a pic of the stand.

I will try. I can't find the cord for the camera. Also, there are short legs on all four corners of the tank, so the only part where there is contact with the floor is those four corners.

just remember... its a petsmart stand... you got it on clearance.... you are about to put 700 or so pounds of mostly liquid on it...

Is it made out of "real" wood or particle board? A vertical center support would be cheap insurance to keep the middle from sagging. If it sags your tank WILL crack, guaranteed!

Tanks have been placed for many years on rought iron stands which only have support at all for corners.

Thanks much for the input, everyone. The more I looked at it, the more the thing just looks like a TV stand. Thanks, Petco, for selling me a TV stand labeled as a 75 gallon stand:irked:

It may hold a 75 gallon, but I decided to not find out the hard way, and I went and bought a real 75 gallon stand for it.

Smart move! Of course you gave Petco the reason for the return, right? :D
