Hello Everyone,

My Nics stil haven't colored up. The male is about 4.5 inches and the females are around 3.5-4 inches. At what size do they color up? I got them from Rapps and I'm a bit dissapointed that they seem to be poor quality...Please share your thoughts. Thanks.

Never had a male, but here's my female around 4.5-5" to compare to...not sure if this is normal coloration as this was the only Nic I have had.

My female Nic remained pretty bland until the 4" stage. Then all of a sudden she transitioned into breeding colors, along with the larger male. The transformation was rapid and remarkable in both sexes. Here's a sequence taken over a 6 week period. The last three photos represent 11 days! Perhaps alter their diet a little and do larger water changes. Also, Nics like to dig pits alongside or underneath rocks when breeding, so make sure you provide opportunities. Good luck!

It took mine a while to color up. She finally did at 5". What are your tank mates and is she stressed? That could make a difference.

Very nice pictures. Do you have a similar set of pictures showing color development of the male by any chance?
