I have three motaguense, 1 male and 2 females. The smaller female paired with the male, this pair has already laid 3 times. The other female, around 5-6 inches was moved to the Dovii tank, the Male dovii is now 12 inches in size. How come the female mota has not laid eggs ? The "pair" have been together for a couple of months now.

Am I reading this correctly .... You moved the female with a Dovii twice its size... Which is kind of risky as the Dovii might end up hurting the mota bad.

He (Dovii) is fine, he gets chased sometimes, some torn tail fins, but nothing serious enough to warrant the removal of the female mota
In my experience mota don't hybridize as readily as other fish, especially if you have a good blood line. I have a LOT of mota
Were you hoping for a hybrid.... has anyone been successfull trying to breed a Dovii with any other female from a different species...
There's a guy here in MI with a doviixmota hybrid, I personally don't like hybrids but to each their own
Not really into a Dovii x mota mix, but females seems to be impossible to find in my area. We have a Cichlid Facebook group in Manila and several of us has male only dovii
