Hi all,
Just wanted to share pictures on what my setup looks like. I don't know how to calculate gallons on sight as my tank really isn't a tank. Just a deep concrete flower-bed that's been emptied out. Have put my cat on the ledge so one can tell how big / small it is.
Right now all i have in there are guppies and glass shrimp, since my lobster died a couple of months ago. I haven't had the time to re-stock it so the guppies are having the time of their lives in there... Will probably put in a few more lobsters again, really enjoyed watching them last time.
It's a simple filtration system, was trying to keep it as natural as i could with less pumps and odds and ends hanging out here and there. Water is taken in by one submerged pump, goes up and out of the statue fish's mouth and down to another filter trough. There are no cotton strips, bio-balls or coral filters here. Just good ol' water plants held down with big, black pebbles.
The waste gets trapped in the plant roots which in turn is utilized by the plants, making grow insanely big that i have to trim them every month. The water overflows back into the tank, making that wonderful trickling sound and areating it at the same time.
Enjoy!

The Tank.

The stone fish is growing algae...

The Planted Filter.

Cat was lured here with biscuits...

Happy Guppies...
