My pleco's seemed to have a continuous stream of feces hanging from thier anus, and these streamers scattered all over my tank. I finally got tired of the mess and returned all three of them to my LFS who gladly took them. My water quality has greatly improved and my maintenance seem to go quicker. There is also a lot more room for more colorful and active specimens. :grinno:

I've been thinking about getting rid of some of mine too. My Royal PLeco in my 240 is one messy mother. He eats all of my driftwood too.

i Love my plecos in my 120. they are messy, so i do 30% WC weekly and 40% biweekly. They are fun but i would let the little ones to some one.....but the big one is my baby! a 14 inch beast :headbang2.

There are some plecos that dont get big....bristlenose and rubberlip. I personally like the rubberlip and I have 4 of them. They stay small and dont create that much waste. I got mine at petsmart for 5 bucks each.

isn't the catfish forum directly under this one?
I've requested it moved to Plecos. Will just wait for the mods.lol

The issue is with the mess they Pleco's create for cichlids.
I was trying to provide advice for fellow cichlid owners who have or are contemplating adding pleco's to thier cichlid tanks. Or suggest a way they could create space and improve the habitat.

you should give them less to eat or less plant- diet.

If they are herbivor only feed them little bit of dry futter. If it are omnivores you should give them more " meaty" diet. They will poo less. Carnivores are very clean.

This really works. You will ancistruss do eat a lot, actually everything they can get. So only give them a bit dry. No cucumber. Or other plants.
