Hey,

i have 2 red belly piranha's in my 55 gallon. I feed them cichlid pelets, krill and the ocasional live fish (silver barbs, convicts, etc.) however one of them never really had much of a red underside but now completly lost its's red on it's underside. Is this normal? there at about 5 inches...

thanks

Was the room and or tank's lights out? If so they where sleeping!

Fish lose color when stressed...have you checked water conditions?

Thanks for the reply's i now i think it was a little of both.....the automatic timer on the lights did not work and the lights had been on for 2 days while i was gone for the weekend...also i checked the temp and the tank was down to 70-72 as apposses to 82.....i reset everything and now he seems to getting his color back...

Ps get pale when chilled. You can mix color enhancing pellets and frozen krill to the pellets you feed them to increase the red they show.

I've red in the book frozen krill or shrimp is an excellent food.
Their shells are a rich source of carotenes that help in the development of the red and yellow colors. I gave my piranhas live shrimp once every 2 weeks.
