When I picked up my new marble motoro I picked up some blackworms since that's what John at ECZS had her eating on and I noticed a bunch of worms getting in the cracks of the tile and pushing themselves under the tile as well. I didn't want all these worms accumulating in my tank and even though I vacuum basically every other day they were not coming out from between the cracks. I did a water change today and removed the tile and wow there was a lot of crap built up in between and under my tiles. Just a warming to people with tiled tanks and people thinking about doing it. You can vacuum all you want but there is still good be a lot of build up.

Now that I have no tiles in my tank it looks boring as hell but it's a whole lot cleaner and easier to keep clean I must say. Any suggestions on how to make my bottom black even though I already have it filled and stocked?

I wanna do sand but I don't know when I had sand in here with my smaller ray pups last year it was a disaster got in my filter destroyed my impeller on my FX5. What kind of sand do you ray keepers use?

Can you paint the bottom? I've painted several glass tanks...... Looks great.

Looks like you can crawl under that stand.... lol

Estes sand here.....

Moon sand here but I would not use it with a canister it's way too light.

yea that was my problem with the white sand I used to have, too light. I have moon sand in my clown loach tank and even those little guys cloud up the water just by swimming around so fast haha

I say black sand. Not moon sand. looks great. I have been running a fx5 with black sand for about 8 months and had no problems. Ive only taken the perpeller apart once in that time. Cleaned it. I always rinse the sand out of the bottem of the canister when i do 3 month canister cleaning.

I like bare bottom but if u go with sand I would go with the 3m quartz or pool filter sand...
