So I'm still at home with my parents and my family could care less about aquariums. I have a 55g and a 2g betta. They hate my fish, the time and money I put into it, everything. I found a 5g in the garage and still trying to coax my dad into it. But seriously, a 5g is so low maintenance. Anyway, what would be a good fish to breed in it if he let's me?

5g is small for breeding most fish.

you could try small live bearers like guppies.

or mabye some ghost shrimp.
(i would stay away from things like brine shrimp or anything small and swarmy as your family will just question your sanity more.)

The problem is that any animal that you have to remove after spawning makes the use of just one small tank difficult

if you do guppies make sure to keep the tank with lots of cover so that the fry can hide until they get big enough.

if you are set on breeding i would see if you could use one of your other tanks for breeding and then use the 5 gallon as a grow up tank for the babies.

Also make sure you have a way to use or sell the offspring.
I dont know if Green terrors will eat ghost shrimp but i belive he would love guppies and guppie fry.

***also just a side note you said that you wanted to get plecos in the 55 please dont get common plecos as they will out grow and fight if you get more than 1. what ever pleco you get try to keep it at under 8inches smaller if you want two (sure you know but commons can get very very big)

Cherry shrimp. Ghost shrimp go through a larval form, really require a much larger setup because of that. Excess could be treats for your carnivores if you can't sell them.

I'd definitely consider something that is a food source for your fish.

When i lived with my parents i bought everything for my tank i even had to pay for water and electric. i was always buying buckets because my parents would was the floor with my NEW ones not the stack of 10 out garge. my fish keeping didnt really start untill i moved out. when i lived with my parents i was allowed ONE 55 gallon nothing else. take your blessings. you could add a "sump" and keep more fish down there i did that for while since i custom made my stand i could hold a 75 gallon under my 55. they never knew untill one day my above tank started to leak and my dad was cleaning it up and he noticed all the fishes down there.
