Swimmin' with the fishes
So my friend took this picture at the Berlin Aquarium.

Awesome tank and cichla, but what caught my eye was in the bottom left corner...

Could that really be a cichla with no stripes OR spangles? I originally thought it was a xingu because of the lack of stripes, but it also looks like has blue on the dorsal. Possibly a xingu/azul hybrid?

Yep, looks like a xingu to me too.

Sorry not too knowledgeable about cichla. Buy this setup is amazing

is it pretty common for xingu to have almost no black markings? All the one's I've seen have the horizontal black line of spots.
There's a lot of variance in the patterns and color of cichla melaniae....I've seen plenty with light markings, plenty with heavy markings. Check out some of kendragon's old threads, he had 8+ in one tank and there were plenty of differences between them and they were all from the same parents.
