:irked: I hooked my once queit pump up to a pvc pipe to my filter and now it has a noise.

what to do ?

the pumps impeller and shaft are in ideal condition and only a week old, double checked.

noise is like a loud hum almost like the pip is applifing the impeelors once slight noise.

the whole pump and the pipes are submerged

thanks.

pump is a rio 1700

Need just a bit more info on how the pump is hooked up.
Is it hanging on the pipe?
Any pump will transmit it’s noise through a “hard line”. Quite often, just taking the pump and resting it on a soft surface will get rid of the hum.
Does the pump come in contact with any hard surface?
Same fix as above, a piece of sponge between pump and surface will stop the hum.

A picture, or diagram would be a big help.

If that doesn't work, you could also try to put a rubber fitting in-line with the PVC. This can sometime reduce vibrations.

The pump is suction cupped to ones side of the tank, then the output connects to six inches of clear tubing and then to three feet of pvc which attaches to the modified overflow wich is my filter the pvc connects to my bulkhead that has two gaskets.

The pipe and pump are at the bottom of the tank and 3/4 of the pvc is covered by sand and the pump rests on sand also.
