Noisy air pumps

I haven't own to many larger air pumps but i got a whisper 60 and man dose it make noise.
so i'm wondering what do some people on here do to bring down the volume on their air pumps. Post your own ideas i would like to see.
i had mine on a rag and it made so much noise so i built a little styrofoam box for it with sponges on the bottom then taped a lid on, its not pretty but made a big difference.So here is before and after (sorry no light under my tank stand) and some pics of the box

Cool. I've been thinking of making something similar. I hate the sound of air pumps.
What works better, low or high density foam?

The air pump I have only really makes a vibrating noise when it is on contact with something. So I hung it from a piece of wire in the stand.

I dont mind the slight humming sound that it makes but I cannot handle the sound it makes when it is against a piece of plywood sheet.

Great idea!
I would pay attention to the intake hole on the pump and make a little hole in the box where it is. For air flow.

the intake hole is right by the cord on the bottom thats y i left a chunk of foam out on the one side in the pic
