can anyone give me tips on making my sump way quieter???? She loved the xp2 on our 55g since there was no noise and then i get a 125 and built a 20g sump and it sounds like a loud fountain is in our living room. I made a 1" diy pvc overflow (i need a 2nd to keep up with the pump) i have to have a ball valve restricting the pumps flow in order to not over fill the tank. That right there is part of the problem. I need get the drain pipes under the water in the sump and i think that would help some as well. also the overflow makes a gurgle sound, its sucking in some air since its so close to the water line. so i'll lower it a little. the pump is a little giant, cant remember the model, but it flows 20gpm from what i found online last week. it moves the water in the tank amazingly well. this is my first sump, and it worked, so i cant complain. just need to fine tune it.

any pointers would be great

I'm sure pics would help a bunch.

try to get another over flow or a bigger diameter on the one you currently have. also, I have found that adding a snug lid will reduce evaporation and noise. gl

i'll get a pic up tonight when i get home from work. i have no problem adding another overflow, but i didnt want to spend the money unless i was keeping that pump. i thought about a lid, im trying to think of what to use for one. i was looking online at the quiet one 4000 to replace my little giant. found it got like 65$ at petsmart.

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOO
i had to move mine to my garage

trust me i thought about it, but the garage is detached and behind my house. i have a crawl space under the house and thought about it under there, but its way to dirty (dirt floor under house).

I made my DIY over flow quiet by capping it and drilling a hole in the cap.

quiet one's aren't that quiet. The make a low vibrating hum. I have 4000 sitting in my garage because of it!
