I’m looking for suggestions for a real glass banging predator to be a solo fish in the 10-16” range. Non cichlid though
I’ve had Fahakas already
I’m thinking a gold or black wolf fish maybe?
Suggestions?

Can't comment on wolffish b/c I have no experience with them. But have you considered the 4-line pictus catfish?
It's larger than the spotted form (gets to 25-30 cm) and is very active with a big mouth and big appetite. Basically a mini-red tailed catfish or tiger shovelnose catfish.

Could do a rainbow wolf or a gulper cat. How big is the tank?

Thanks, I already have a 4 line pim in another tank. It is cool though

Those are a little on the small side for what I’m thinking but they are cool, especially the rainbow wolf
I’m either going to use a 120 or a 180

Lots of sun fish have similar behaviors to cichlids.
What about a serra piranha, they tend to have cichlid like tendencies. Many will try to attack you through the glass.
Plenty of marine options too like triggers or groupers.
I know red wolves are supposed to be very interactive, not sure if the others are too.

I see. Perhaps the Mekong tiger perch? Seems like it would fit quite nicely into a 680 liter at 25-30 cm: https://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/datnioides-undecimradiatus/

PS: Regardless of the fish you choose, I advise going with the 680 liter over the 454 liter. The more room the better.
I already have both tanks, I’m probably going to use the 120 at first then use the 180 when i upgrade the 180. I think I’ve narrowed it down to a gold wolf fish or a odoe pike
