My pleco gets all the spoils from everyone else's eating... but he's a big boy, and isn't ever satisfied. He'll even go up to the top and eat floating pellets sometimes. Usually I drop on a bunch of shrimp pellets for him, but god they make a mess of my tank. He loves bloodworms, but so does everyone else, so he never gets many. I drop some cooked zucchini in there now and then, but he shreds it, and my tank looks like a war zone for hours afterwards. He'll also eat krill, but with the same issue - floaty krill bits all over my tank. Anyone recommend something he can munch on without polluting my tank?

I suggest hikari algae pellets, my pleco LOVES them, and they make no mess what so ever..

cucumbers arent as bad as zucchini

Algae wafers and shrimp pellets are the easiest food that I found or just not as much at one time. They will live if they don't get alot of food and that will allow them to clean some of the tank too. They like the bogwood for fiber.

I don't want him to just live. You'll live if you get fed a slice of bread and a glass of water a day too... heck you might even clean some of the crumbs off the floor that way!

This guy has grown from 10 to 11" in the last couple of months... I'd love to see him get to 18"... I just hate the disaster of floating pleco food bits.

HBH Super Soft with spirulina and algae wafers don't seem messy.

Carnivore pellets, or maybe for your plecos size massivore pellets would probably make him happy.

One of the keys to non messy veggies is to cook them JUST enough to sink but not enough to become a soggy mess...takes a bit of practice to get it right. The other option is to use one of the mangetic holders...attach a non cooked piece and then slide it down the glass to the bottom.

I use algae wafers. No mess except when left in the water for over 10 minutes, which is rare for me. They munch on them, move onto the next and keep acting as if they're hungry. But because of your plecs size, it needs much more protien in its diet. So massivore pellets. I've never used shrimp pellets and may never.

yeah Zucchini won't sink usually no matter what I do, so I weigh it down, but if it's not cooked nice and soft, he won't eat all of it. Picky bugger.

Do massivore pellets sink? he goes NUTS for the hikari cichlid gold, but it floats for a LONG time, and he has quite a bit of trouble getting it from the surface (though that doesn't stop him from trying.)

NLS algae wagers can go 24 hours in your tank without disentegrating. Another food he might like are the NLS sinking pellets. My pleco eats them up.

With zuchini, cut it in half longways. Then wrap it in plastic wrap and microwave it for about 90 seconds. Take it out, unwrap it and submerse it in ice water for a couple of minutes to stop the cooking. You can then weigh it down in your tank without a mess. It blanches it just enough to make it easy to eat but not to soggyness.
