Non-native fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow thats crazy...Florida really got hit with that one. I would imagine because the waters stay warm year round and its easier for the fish to acclimate. If they release anything up here in CT thats tropical they would never make it thru the winter. Nice info.

Ya here in Colorado non native fish turn up once in awhile during th summer. Ive heard of snakeheads, asian carp, pacu, and oscars being caught, and Ive seen koi and goldfish in some lakes here.

yes its a wonder how some of those species get into some of the bodies of water like they do...you have to wonder what ppl are thinking when theyre risking the lives of the fish when releasing them into a body of water when you could just sell them to a lfs and get money knowing theyre ok

Even in the National Audubon Society's Feild guid to New England, they have goldfish listed as a fish you will find in ponds.

Very interesting, thanks for the link. Anyone considering releasing fish into the wild should consider these things.

Most of the people releasing fish into the wild probably dont belong to something like MFK, so they will most likely never see the link I posted. And if they did I could imagine them thinking "o well, theres already other people putting fish in here, whats one more gonna hurt?"
