I got new three 1 1/2 inch comet goldfish for a 30 gallon tank just two days ago. The water is clean and the temperature is about 65-70 degree(it's room temperature since the heat's turn up). The filter and air pump are running constantly.

Anyway, I got the fish from Petsmart and they all seemed healthy(with no damage to the fins or anything), active, and hungry(the way all goldfish are). Today, three days later, one of comet suddenly starting sitting in the corner by itself all still and stuff and when it does swim(when we urge it to by tapping gently on the tank glass), it seemly to be struggling to stay up. There are no injuries and it's definitely not swim bladder, or anything, and all the others were just fine and healthy. Is this normal? I think it's dying...

I work at petsmart and I can tell you that if you got the goldies from the 20 cent feeder tanks then it should not be surpriding that it is ill. the feeders arent treated very well(to put it politely) They get very stessed every day by being dropped on the floor, caught in the net multiple times, chased by the net around and around, and underfed. About 100-200 dead feeders is normal a DAY and the live ones frequently get bumped, scratched, caught, etc in the net while the dead guys are being taken out. And normally they are so crowded that they ant help but nip each other so almost all of them are missing scales have torn fins etc. Also they arent really shipped the greatest way...

What are your water parameters? (Ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, pH)

I call it "sudden feeder death syndrome." It happens all the time. I would separate him from your other golds.

QT him, and add a pinch of AQ salt, you should try feeding him some peas, just to make sure he isn't constipated.

other than that, don't be surprised if you lose him. It's going to suck big time, but goldfish are one of the most abused fish in the hobby

My goldfish did that when I lowered the temp, currently my tanks temp is at about 78 degrees and thew are quite active.

thats a common attitude of comets.. there's nothing wrong with your fish..
they just wanna chill, instead of swimmin around all day
