Just now I went to my 55 gal. to turn the lights on and notice the victim. My Royal Pleco was murdered:WHOA: . It had to be the Red head cichlid in the tank with him:irked: . I notice early in the week that my Royal was getting picked on some, by it. I was thinking of trading the redhead in this weekend but too late. The Royal was the most favorite pleco I have owned.

Sorry for your loss. I give my plecs plenty of escape spots if I am keeping them with larger fish.

The royal was only a 1/4 of an ich smaller. I'm going to have to think of redecorating the tank for next pleco. Won't have too much trouble I hope with next one because I'm going to see about trading the redhead in. The redhead tried to pick on my Pimelodus albofasciatus and got a huge tail slap across the face. My Pimelodus albofasciatus rules the tank.

I don't think it could of been environmental because I recently did a water change.

I got my new Royal pleco ordered today. I should recieve it at the lfs around Tues. I'll get it in with their order. The redhead cichlid went to the lfs for trade.

Did you see any physical evidence that it was the redhead cichlid ? (species?)

Yeah, I actually saw the redhead(synspilum) picking on it. The last couple days before it died it's tail fin was shredded from where the redhead picked at him. I did like my redhead, but not as much as my royal pleco. If it was just a common pleco it killed, I probably wouldn't of trade it in.

Update so far my new Royal Pleco is doing good.

murder u say... well there will have to be a full investigation into the matter, are you sure that it was not due to natural causes. i mean come on... as if a fish would kill in "cold blood".... .... ... ... ... sorry for your loss

The redhead had glassy eyes and loved to torture other smaller fish. It even was somewhat of a cannibal because it would eat other fish. It may of had a rough fryhood and got picked on by other fish when it was smaller. It had an odd fascination with tail fins.

The Royal was a bit of a pretty fish and got lots of attention.
