so im planning to grow plants on driftwood. is there a rule for the distance between the plants? im going to get some java moss/fern and some anubias. would it look better spread out or close together?

btw i have a 55gal

also should i get multiple pieces of driftwood or just a large piece?

it all depends on what you like. i like my plants to be very backed in there. in a 55 i would either do one long center (but not in the very middle) piece planted with java fern on the back side with anubias on the front. if you do that i would find a long piece that has a peak on it and be sure the peak is at the magic 1/3 spot.

or

do two large (but not to large) pieces on each end and put some anubias and java fern on them.

best bet is to look at alot of pictures of planted tanks and see what you like. because you are the one that has to look at it all the time.

its all personal preference really. some like the clean and tidy look, and others, like myself, like the overgrown jungle look :) i started with clean and simple, then went to jungle. my personal advice, put as much wood and plants as you can. then when stuff gets to thick, just thin it down. i tend to prefer the more branchy-looking driftwood than a big stump as you can attach lots of mosses to it.

this was my 55g in all its glory before i tore it down a few months ago. i still miss it :(

alright. thanks. i think i like the jungle look. it looks clean in your tank. does it require alot of maintenance or you just let it grow a trim it here and there?

yeah i would just let the plants do their thing. when it got too bad, i would trim them down a bit. usually once a week since i was running high light/pressurized co2

ic. i dont have to run any co2 right? what website can i buy java moss/fern and anubia's from? cause i went to most of the regular stores i go to and they dont have any.

i bought all my plants from members at plantedtank.net. way better than going thru a store

can i use orange county sand? i have about 50lbs sitting in my garage. i used it to make a beach scenery for my sisters turtles.

hey jcardona1...i was wonder what is the sword looking plant in the middle left of the picture (the one with the wavy leaves). it looks like java fern or a crypt i cant tell.
