Hey guys,

My name is Tim and i think this site freakin rocks.

currently i have a couple of set ups:

20 gallon long: 2 red ear sliders, tiger oscar, flying fox
20 gallon show: 2 clown loaches, raphael armored catfish, angelfish
10 gallon: 5 cardinal tetras, 1 neon tetra, baby clown loach, angelicus botia

future plans: i just inherited a nice 75 gallon with wood stand/canopy. originally it was used as a marine reef tank, but I can't afford that, so it's gonna be fresh water.
it has an overflow box built in with 1 output hole and there's a 20 gallon underneath as a sump tank.

current plans for the tank:
ordering:
danner return pump 700gph ($64)
300 bio balls ($16)
vinyl piping connecting it all ($?)
lighting - maybe a 75 gallon hood with 2 light ballasts (~$100)
2 fluorescent lights (~$50)?? going for uber bright purple lights
at least 50lbs of sand ($>50)
nice piece of drift wood (~$50)
thinking about starting off with 3 needle fish ($30)
plants ($absolutely no clue)
_______________________
total $$ - prob around $450

any idea on the tank hood/lighting part?
how about substrate for plants? do i need eco-complete? i was thinking about having a nice log piece of drift wood in center with crap attached to it with big plants around it. i don't want a full planted tank, just lightly planted.
how about attaching the return hose to the tank?

I'm very much a noob with tanks bigger than 20 gallons, so any advice would be incredibly appreciated! :D

Thanks guys.

:welcome:It's a good thing you got the 75, those CLs can grow to be over 1'. The 75 will suffice for now. Post your questions in general aquaria, and will get more responses. Don't get offended if it seems like people put you down (those 20's are over crowded) We are all here to help, but everyone does it in their own way. Everyone here is honest about the advice they give, wether you like it or not. Good luck
