Hi i am a total noob in this salt water fish keeping hobby. i've been keeping freshwater fish for my whole fishkeeping life. after seeing the awesome and beautiful panther grouper, I fell in love with salt water fish.
i am getting a 50 gal bowfront tank and i was wondering if you can keep a cool looking grouper in it. Is there anyway i could keep a single panther grouper in it for life all by itself (pretty dumb question)? if not, what kind of grouper would be suitable to liv in a 50 gal for life? Can i put a snowflake eel? also what would be i good starter salt water fish for me???
please note that I will not upgrade for a long time (around 4 years). I do have a 30 gal and 10 gal which I am keeping freshwater fish. it would be awesome to send pics of some great aquarium grouper.

Thanks.

I would immediately say no to the eel. It'll definitely outgrow a 50 gallon as far as I know, but let others give you that advice.

There are loads of cool fish you can keep in 50's. Check a website called LiveAquaria. They have a lot of fish as well as gallon recommendations which are pretty accurate!

No groupers are suitable for life in a 50g aquarium.

Look into a smaller grouper to start with, keeping in mind that a tank upgrade will be necessary.

Spotted Grouper
Minatus Grouper

These are two smaller groupers I have kept with success for short periods of time in 75g tanks with lots of rock work.

a snowflake eel would do just fine in a 50 gallon. If you wanted aggressive you could go with dwarf lions, or triggers, or possibly a smaller puffer. I would say NO to the grouper they get HUGE.
