I have an acrylic aquarium that measures 48"x48" but it is only 12" in height I use to grow out my pleco's in there. I have an opporutunity to get a fresh water stingray so I am wondering if that would be ok as far as height goes, or does it have to be taller than that for it to be ok?

probably fine for pups. once the ray reaches 8-10" disc diameter, it'd be too shallow..would deffinately need a lip around the top edge so the ray could crawl out. they tend to swim the face of the tank up and down and could easily swim right over the edge!:WHOA:

It has a lip of about 4 inches for bracing purposes but I wanted to see what the min height should be?

Yeah I know which is why I have to jump on this chance. And I have been in this hobby for years I have built plywood tanks just to keep my koi happy. Therefore would make sure to do everything to make it work. So I am not one of those people that dump fish into the wild when they can't figure out what to do.

I think what he means is, you really shouldnt be asking about this in public with your location out in the open.

Anyways, I would say 24" tall minimum. Any less and your rays will either constantly be banging on your lids or if there are no lids, they're just going to slide right out.

Yeah, we get that, you just shouldn't be talking about owning illegal fish on a public website. Stingrays in texas are a no-no. Talking about it puts you and the website at risk and may encourage someone who isn't as respectful to do the same.

Where are freshwater stingrays from??? Why are they illegal to own?

Thanks for the heads up sorry dont mean to get anyone much less the site in trouble.
If it needs to be closed so be it :)
