Ok, so the last time I had a freshwater tank I think I was eight. I was given a Green Spotted Puffer about a year ago, and have built a thriving high end brackish tank in that time. I was recently given a free tank (72 Gal bowfront) I was hoping to grow out a pair of EBJD's and really want to add a Pleco. What types do you think would work with those Jack Dempseys? I really don't want a common pleco. I tend to like the oddballs of this world. I drive a Mopar A body, ride a Cushman scooter, and started off my aquarium hobby with a brackish tank. In my spare time I grow endangered cacti and rare South American succulents(in Illinois). I have no problem putting in any sort of effort, but I want something most people have not seen. That tank I had when I was eight had a pair of regular Jack Dempseys and a common Pleco. I would really like to recreate that tank with a new take. Again, I am sorry if this is a dumb question. I am on page one of the freshwater aquarium book. I do promise to share any and all that I learn from you with anybody that wishes to pursue this hobby. Or maybe even play dumb to keep someone from getting a fish that I know they won't take care of properly. I am looking for something that looks great, and can hold it's own with some aggressive fish. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Any and all advice is welcomed, even if you need to tell me that I'm a dumbass and I should never put another fish in a tank. I really want to know what is the best combo in your opinion.

I kept L200's, L190's, L191's, L052's, L155, L018, L081 and even a 10" (at the time) L001 with my ebjds and they were all fine. Obviosly the 155 would outgrow the 72g, but In that tank you could keep pretty much any medium growing pleco. None of my ever bothered my ebjd's at all, in fact they seemed a perfect match. I loved the simplicity of 2 beautiful EBJD's and then 5 or 6 oddball pleco's. So really it comes down to what kind of pleco's you're into. I suggest taking a stroll over to planetcatfish.com and looking through the "L number " section under cat E-log.(if you haven't done so already.)
Any more questions, feel free to ask!
Josh.

I've never had EBJD, so can't comment on the combination of plecos with them. However, one thought to consider is how much filtration and water changing do you plan/want to do? Plecos are generally messy, and some are much more messy than others. If you hate water changes and are going with minimal filtration, I would advise against getting plecos in the Panaque family, like L191 (one of the "Royal" plecos) or L204 (emperor flash pleco). I've never had an L 191, however I do have several L204s. Panaques eat a lot of wood, and as a result create a lot of "saw dust;" I'm constantly surprised by the amount of wood dust my L204s create. No such issue with my tank with more carnivorous plecos (L114 and L07).
