Do you provide alot of hides for your dats?
I know some keep them in bare tanks.

Just wondering because when I turn on my tank lights, my dats either hide in the far back corner of my aquarium away from the light, or they hide in the fake stump I have in the aquarium.

One dat is very dark black, the other sometimes is just pure yellow/orange but most of the time I can see the outline of his bars and the rest is just yellow/orange.

If I take out the stump they hide in, will they eventually get used to the light and swim around more?

BTW: 2x IT's 4''

Also...
Since this question wasnt answered I have another,
I'm adding a third dat NTT/Indo to the tank, and was wondering what are some schooling fish the dats will not eat that I could put with them? I was thinking Tiger Barbs but Tiger Barbs like to nip fins.

And, do you think my 4'' dats would try and eat a 2-3'' silver arowana? Theres one at an LFS that has some messed up fins from being kept with cichlids and I kinda want to get it and nurse it back to health.

Mine do the exact same thing. I have them(4" NTT,3" NGT,and a 2" IT) in a bare bottom 100 gal with big piece of drift wood and a fake plant. I had the same question. I'm waiting on an answer also.

since u just got them i would leave thema hideing spot tell there stable, dont wanna add any more stress, im sure in time when there stable and hungry they will be use to u and know u are the hand that feeds them, i would leave them or maybe give them another hideing spot, ya u will not be able to see ur new cool dats, but i think it will help them be more comfortable and stable faster then it will just be a matter of time b4 there out and about.

They come out when the lights are out and swim around and look at me, but if I moved/turn on lights they dash into hiding.

I wanna get one more dat though, I hear a trio is better than pair.

ya i think there just a little shy, they will lighten up in time, but since they are shy dont stress them out to much and i would just make sure if they wanna hide then they can and feel safe. and im sure once they get abit bigger and get stable they will start to come out when its feeding time, when that happens then u can prob take out the hideing spots.

Yeah, They're not too shy, and one is showing pretty good color, I'd take a picture but I dont feel like stressing them.
I'm not going to feed them this morning, as they ate alot of jumo krill last night so I'll probably feed then later tonight or on monday.

I'd like to get a few more dats though to break up aggression and what not.
