not new to mfk but definitely new to discus...

why are wild discus more expensive than the standard designer discus breed in captivity???...hardier?...get bigger?...can be bred to create new designs? :)

...any info would be greatly appriciated :)
 
dont do it...... you cant put those with your current fishies.....

hahahaha...i was curious from a post from ewok...always thought discus was a cool fish but knew i could never do it in my packed tank haha...might be interested in starting a discus tank for fun whenever i get my house :irked:

domestic strains are bred on commercial scales. sooo many people breed them in asia - it's their own industry. there are no predators in those commercial breeding set ups. there are no or little disease, and if there is they will be addressed in a fast manner. they get food all the time.
all this means that the population of domestic bred discus probably outnumbers their wild cousins by a large margin. added onto the fact that wild discus are harvested only like twice a year from the looks of it means that wilds command a higher price given their relative scarcity.
supply and demand my friend ;)
 
wilds are more expensive but pretty hardy from my experience.... just need some good tlc for a few weeks....
