noob to cichlids

as the title says, i am a noob when it comes to cichlids but i have a general idea of how they differ from the semiagressives i currently have

i will be movin my semi's to another tank freeing up the space in my partially planted 55 gal.

any recommendations on what to put in this tank in terms of central and south american cichlids, i have good ideas but i want to know what others have or recommend to consider different varieties

For your 55,i would get a pair of Dempseys or Firemouths,1 of my favorites are Port Cichlids,or you could get a nice Midas or Red Devil or even a beautiful Green Terror.It really is up to you and your personal tastes.

You, could also just get some earth-eater cichlids they are quite docile,
or even some cockatoos if you can find them.

Firemouths and any type of Acara's will go nicely in a planted 55, they enjoy plants without tearing them up. Depending on what plants you have I'd also recommend Severums, though they can chew them up.

Salvini love planted tanks as well. A Pair would probably work in there, but I'd keep it at that.
